Inspiration
The inspiration behind the artwork adorning the denim jacket stems from a melding of the Misfits skull and the ornamental patterns of a sugar skull. This is achieved through a fusion of the customary layout of the sugar skull, a representation of the Mexican holiday Día de los Muertos, also known as the Day of the Dead.
While its origins can be traced back to Mexico, the holiday of Día de los Muertos or Day of the Dead is celebrated throughout Latin America, and shares a spooky aesthetic with the punk rock band the Misfits, whose music is heavily influenced by horror themes. The inspiration for the artwork on the denim jacket came from combining the iconic Misfits skull with the traditional pattern layout of a sugar skull, which is commonly associated with the Day of the Dead holiday.
The process
Art is in our JEANS
"Art is in our Jeans" was a senior Capstone Project that involved multiple students from California State University Channel Islands. The project's objective was to establish connections and collaborate with fellow artists to produce art pieces on any denim fabric.

The denim fabrics were to be proudly donned and showcased during a fashion show, and the denim pieces would be offered for auction. The accompanying image features myself, the artist, along with a classmate who became the owner of the one-of-a-kind denim jacket.
ADDITIONAL FEATURES
Following the sale of the denim jacket, the client expressed a desire to enhance the piece's cohesiveness and completeness by incorporating additional sugar skull pattern designs along the sleeves.

"Fiend Club" is a hit song from the Misfits and its also the name of the fan club for the Misfits, adding this makes the jacket feel as an exclusive product.
